… And Senna opened his eyes

Yes, that’s just about the phrase I use.

It took me a while to decide on how to make it known that Senna wasn’t killed in his Imola accident. But this should be it. I won’t give away more just yet, but I’m almost there. I’ve all but finished the race review, and only have the aftermath, with all the rule changes and stuff, to go. So hang in there for just a bit more.

  1. I have a suggestion for the latter chapters.

You don’t need to follow the real path, after Imola, because it’s a “what if”. There are conspiracy theories about the FIA excluding Schumacher in order to close the championship, at a moment when F1 was seriously in danger; maybe that wouldn’t have been necessary, had Senna lived. Senna could have won races Hill didn’t, like Monaco, Canada or Hungary, and so on.

I think it would be more interesting to have a true fight between Senna and Schumi, without Senna being gifted these two Monza and Estoril wins. You can have Schumi making a mistake and crashing out, or whatever. Or maybe disqualify him from the British and/or the Belgian GPs. Or maybe keep Schumi’s two-race ban and giving a one-race ban to Senna for a clash at other race.

That way, your history would be less predictable, and I would love to read Senna’s opinions about the FIA trying to fuck him again and handling the title to that German cheater hahaha.

But of course, I suppose you have your own ideas 🙂

  2. Oooh, can’t wait!

(I also meant to mention, we may have passed by each other without realising it last month – I was also at the Circuit de Catalunya. My first GP, too, quite a coincidence!)

  3. Yeah, I actually started a couple of months ago writing my own, from the point of view of a journalist who is covering the 1994 Season all around the world, but I’m just too lazy to keep it going…

  4. I’ve just read something you wrote a couple of months ago at Autosport, about a Senna quote…

This is the audio file where you can find Senna saying his season was going to have fourteen races, not sixteen:

  5. Ferrim, that audio file is brilliant. I had heard about the quote back in 1994, and a couple of times since, too. But when researching for the San Marino chapter, I couldn’t find an exact quote, neither in writing nor in spoken word. So thanks a bunch! 🙂

  6. Wow, I’ve just find a rare video on which Murray Walker interviews Schumacher and Senna during the weekend at Imola. Senna says the same sentence we were talking about and a few other things:
